Methylglyoxal is the active anti-bacterial compound in Manuka Honey. MGO Manuka Honey is labelled based on the minimum Methylglyoxal content (mg/kg) it contains.

For instance, MGO 400+ Manuka Honey has been tested and is certified to contain at least 400mg/kg of dietary methylglyoxal.

Methylglyoxal is the active compound directly responsible for the antibacterial activity of any Manuka honey and the MGO rating clearly indicates the minimum level of this compound in each jar.
